Se Me Olvido

So I had at least three inspirations to write a blog post, but by the time I got to my computer the inspiration was gone. Sorry people. Its my belief that you should only blog if you have something to say, not just do it for the sake of writing it.

Something We Can All Be Thankful For

So me and my family drove up to Boston for Thanksgiving. 6 hours and 55 minutes into our 7 hour trip, as we are cruising (well under the speed limit mind you) down the main street, another car suddenly darts out in front of us leaving me only enough time to grab the door handle to brace myself, turn my head to look at my mom who’s driving, and think “awww f#$k” before we smash into the other car. The airbags instantly deploy. I sit there for a second, looking at them, as I had never seen one before this, then open the door and get out the car. No one in our car was hurt, though the fate of the other driver is at this point unknown, though it appears she was having some problems of her own.

Crash Damage

When it first happened, I though nothing of it, I just calm walked around, unloaded the car, taking care to save what was left of the candied yams that had spilled during the crash (yes I still ate them, yes they were still good). 5 hours later I got to thinking, “wow, I could have legit just dies” but the though didn't really have any impact because it didn't actually happen and you know how we humans suck at imaging our deaths, because you cant imagine yourself being in a state where you cant imagine anything (if that makes any sense to you).

But like I said, here is something we can all be thankful for:

Trickin’ and Treatin’

Happy Halloween ‘Fokes!

………..wait a minute, isn’t Halloween supposed to be:

Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints, but is today largely a secular celebration.

That your supposed to get a scary costume (Tricking) and then get candy (Treating).

But lately there has been a lot more Trickin' and then some serious Treatin' afterwards. Halloween……errrr Hoellaween has really transformed into an excuse for women to run around naked (not that I would complain) in an extreme attempt to attract men. Its gotten to the point that its really shameful. They really should just make a separate “Dress as close to naked as you can get without getting arrested” Day. I mean I wouldn't want my kids outside with these women, that's not really the kind of childhood that they should be having. I’m all for showing a little skin as those who know me know well, but at least make an attempt at staying in costume. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a butterfly dance like that.

But hey, like TI said, I guess it aint trickin’ if you got it.

Life Update #1

I’ve been on my grind lately. Usually I wait for some sort of inspiration for a post, but so much has happened since I last posted that I feel obligated to make one.

The first things that comes to mind is the academic aspect of my life. I've got a B in all my classes except for Philosophy, which will be an A. While that's ok, that's not what I want.

Spanish should be cake, I'm at a lower level then I should be, I just need to clean up my writing, so my professor can stop being anal and taking off points when its clear I know Spanish.

Bio I need to study smarter, that's why I'm meeting with the professor to get right from the horses mouth what I should study.

Econ had a BS midterm. Questionable wording, knew the stuff, got robbed, will do better next time. Met with the good Dr. Speigel, he’s going to give me back some points.

Went out on Thirsty Thursday for the first time, was pretty nice, if Ive got the time and can spare the rest, Ill go again….and again. Weekend partying is always nice.

My body has been sore a lot though. Guess that's track for you. And 70 miles a week. I've got to remember to keep taking that ZMA (Muscle Recovery Supplement). Gotta go hard.

And so Ill leave you with this video I'm watching of a song I haven't heard in too long.

My Man Too Nice

My Man Fredo

Someone want to explain to me why he's so nice?

That my training partner and friendly rival (though its not much of a rivalry at this point because he has about 20 secs on me in the 5000. Give me a year or two and I got him.)

The article does most of the talking, but just know there's nothing stopping him, so next time your in a race, no need to turn around, just know he's right behind you.

The Once and Future King

The Once and Future King

There is Brett Favre (The Once) and Aaron Rodger (The Future). Kings of the Game.

One is an aging almost-40-year-old QB with something left in a once dominant arm. The other is a 25 year old rising star with a cannon for an arm.

For one night none of that mattered.

Both QB’s played excellently, though the latter was let down by a porous offensive line and a crucial endzone dropped pass.

Regardless is was beautiful to watch.

Who’s ready for round two?

Got Crack???

Its crazy. I need to go in rehab. Me being on Facebook is out of control. Now that I have a laptop and don't really do much of anything other than study, run, sleep, and hangout, my other four hours of day are usually spent snorting that online cocaine. Its not even that I spend time looking at Facebook profiles, its just that since they made Facebook chat the allure to talk to all those people I never talked to before it too much. I mean I still get my work done, still go to practice, still go out and chill with people, its just now I talk to them online, usually while doing something else eg. making dinner, talking on the phone. I even talk to people who I:

1. Just talked to in person. Or am still talking to, because they are sitting right next to me.

2. I just talked to on the phone/am still talking to on the phone

3. Am in the middle of texting

4. Am going to hang chill with later, but just feel like talking to anyways

FacebookChat will never replace person to person talking, or even video chat however. And no, you should not be on Facebook ever on a Friday or Saturday night, because you should be out with people.

For all you adicts out there, welcome to rehab

Rehab Here!

Shooting yourself in the leg to spite your face???!!

How do you like that ironic twist on an old saying. Well I know he doesn't:

Former Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress(notes) carries his son, Elijah, as he arrives at Manhattan criminal court for his sentencing ,Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in New York. Burress was sentenced to two years in prison for possessing a gun at a night club.

My man shot himself and got more jail time than Donte Stallworth who killed a man, albeit when he was crossing a highway while drunk. Plus Plax is a better receiver, so you'd think he’d get less time. Not the case, I guess that's what happens when you carry a concealed weapon in Manhattan. Should have just done it in Brooklyn. This really is sad, even though he wriggled out of the minimum 3.5 years, it goes to show that you really do need to think before you act.

Word to my man Keenan

They have really taken this joke to far. Be warned; if I see you in one of these I'm gonna have to break out the white paint and lighters. These can never be worn. Ever. Don't even think about it.

Running With A Legend

Running Update: Yeah so I’m not going to be racing much during cross season, maybe a few tune up races. They’ve got the 5000 indoors so I’ll start then. Ill just be training on my own, staying healthy, building up a base.

So I was out with my new training partner, my man Matt, on our long run so I decided to take him out to the Belmont 5 mile course made by my high school coaches father, Saint Clair. So as we were finishing up the downhill after Parachute (Or Suicide Hill for those real runners out there) and heading into the back part when I see this old man running. He asks if I'm running the 5 mile course and I say yes and he says he is too, so we start talking and I find out his name, Gary Fanelli. He is soon to be 59, still runs, and said he was once and Olympic marathoner which was what really caught my attention. Been running on that course for 40 years, and him and the coach at Philly U are trying to get the back part cleared up so we can run easier. After doing the course with him (kind of slow pace, figured I’d give matt some time to recover) and as we come back to the flat ground I see that its time for Matt and I to pick it up because we have to get back. I tell him goodbye and we have to go, so I'm going to pick it up and be out. I start striding out, and low and behold, but who decides to follow but Gary, and though he has a shorter jerkier stride he is able to keep up. Sadly though, Matt was still burnt, so we had to slow down, but man were we rolling. He also said he knew my distance coach at UPenn.

So of course the first thing I do when I get back to my dorm is look this guy up. And boy was I surprised with what I found:

Gary Fanelli

He’s the guy in the middle.

Apparently not only was he really in the Olympics, but he ran a sick 2:14 and ran marathons in crazy costumes. That would explain why he was still able to pick it up though. That's crazy.

Insomniac

I got 20 hours of sleep total over the last five days. So What. Other than a few naps in meetings (sorry coach) and my legs failing on a morning run (had to walk). Parties were pretty nice. Wasn't really the parties themselves that were nice, it was the opportunity to meet other people that was the real fun (even if they were wasted). Never before had I gone out five nights in a row, and I do not plan to duplicate this feat again for quite some time, lest I neglect my primary duty, which is to get an education. I would upload photos, but then again I dont want any incriminating evidence online. My only problem with NSO was the people who took it too far. Those people who ended up being carried out in ambulances while looking brain dead was really unnecessary. There is no reason to ever be that drunk, and Ive got so say especially for all you ladies ou there, it is really unattractive.

Drinking only serves two purposes:

1. To silence the inhibitions of socially anxious people

2. As a way of bonding with your peers

I would only do it for the sake of the latter, but now that I am on the UPenn Cross Country Squad, I'm going to stay dry so I can continue to perform at a high level. Not to knock intoxication, I have a lot of friends who live below the influence, and there good people, so keep it real. Got a few visits from my man John Kile (Check out his blog). Shoutout to my man BStevenson, always down for the ride (a slow ride that it may be). The Sudanese kid showed up too.

This has been a pretty nice week though. I'm just icing my legs, getting ready to call it a night. Bout to get it Classy in here.

Conversation? With You? I don’t want to talk to you…..or maybe I do…..lets find out.

Talking to other people is one of the oldest known forms of communication and also one of the most effective ways of communicating with others. It’s actually pretty funny because to type very blog post I am speaking to my computer. But that is besides the point, I just found it interesting.

Recently with the rise of texting to prominence, people have been speaking to each other less and instead using text as the dominant form of communication. What gets lost in translation there, is some of the feelings and emotions that go along with actual speech, and more importantly the bonding that occurs when you talk with somebody.

Now you may be thinking to yourself, “but I don’t want to talk that person you imbecile, that's why I text them.” Though this situation if unfortunate, I will admit this has happened to me quite a few times, though I have made it a point to press the call button on my phone much more often then the “send message” button. I didn't say anything about how long the conversation should last.

This of course, brings me to my main point, about conversations, or the lack there of. When it comes to conversations, the there are four types of people:

1. The person that doesn't want to talk to you, and you don't want to talk to them. Other than essential communication, you wont say anything to them and they wont speak to you.

2. You wish you could speak to this person because you feel as though it would be really cool and that you would get a lot out of it. They might feel this way too, but regardless, for some reason or another your conversations really don’t work out, and you have to space out when you talk to this person.

3. You click with this person. Even if your conversations aren't always deep and meaningful, you always have something to say to this person. You talk to this person a lot, through various forms of communication, even if the conversation isn't really necessary, you’d still rather have it. Even if you just talked to this person and it defies conventional wisdom that you contact them again so soon, you do it anyways because you feel like it, and even if they don't want to hear from you, which they sometimes might, they still will talk to you. This is the category that your close friends usually fall under, but not always  ( I have a couple of friends like this, who are stuck between 2 and 3, and its kind of awkward).

4. Your mother. She will always talk to you. She can’t help it. She gave birth to you, and as much as it pains her, she’ll listen to everything you have to say and more. Even if, god forbid, she doesn't love you, she’ll still listen to what you have to say. It in her job description, she can’t help but care.

Who knows where you are on this scale?

Only one way to find out

Unlimited Front

Yes so I recently received my new computer in the mail, UPS finally got its act together. While downloading the Windows Live equivalent of Outlook, I found this interesting program that lets you edit your blog or other online websites easily and much more conveniently. With the help of my brother Ian, I was able to run a test.

Now that I know its this easy, I’ll probably update my blog much more frequently.

BIg Ass Post Because It's Been Too Hot To Type

Its been a while. It was too hot outside for reflection.

So its been an interesting few weeks. Finished up my Farewell Tour 2009, saw some friends, chilled.

Boston

Got a nice family beach house down there, two blocks from the water (Katie I told you there was room)

New York

Yeah so I forgot my camera....damn was that salty. My Grandma has a nice aparmtent of Linden Boulevard. Visited with her an my uncle mostly. Its kind of concrete jungle down there. That Coney Island aquarium was pretty nice. Those walrus's were huge, and could jump high for some reason.....Saw a really cute sea lion who looked like a friend of mine (yes Tayti, that means you). Went in Prospect Park for a bit for a nice 100 min run. Hadn't been in there in a while, used to come a lot when I lived in Park Slope.

Now back to that heat. Damn was it hot. Couldn't even run at 10 at night it was so hot. Finally found a nice 60 min run route through Valley Green though. Got that 110-120 min run Wednesday, might try to go visit people I'll be out so long.

I AM BENDER! Beer=Life

So apparently this is what I look like inside.....not cool. Some friends of mine (You know who you are) gave me this nickname for reasons that will not be revealed and so far it has held true, apparently being intoxicated doesn't affect me the same way it does others.

Case in point; I was out last night for my grandfathers 84th Birthday Dinner (You've got to admit, thats pretty old, he deserves a round of applause or something, I can't even dream that far ahead)and my Aunt & Uncle take us out to a nice French Restaurant. As I leave to go wash my hands (I always do so before I eat), they ask me what I want to drink. As a joke, I say, how about some Bacardi (40% or 80 Proof) (I really wanted some sprite, but I figure they'd take it as a joke and then ask me what I wanted when I came back). As vain as I might be, I don't really think I appear to be 21 (Must have been the goatee), so I was surprised when I came back to a full glass of what looked like water but for sure didn't smell like it. Yeah so apparently your supposed to take your time drinking that stuff, but since drinking isn't a habit of mine I didn't know and finished it in about five minutes. I felt pretty nice for the rest of the night. I was worried because I was supposed to run later that evening, and thought that maybe this shit would mess me up. It didn't. I felt fine. No slurred speech. NO NOTHING!!!

Somethings wrong here.

Boston is a Big City? Fuck That

So I'm part way through my two weeks two state farewell tour of all my family and for the first week I'm in Boston with my mothers side of the family (The Russian Jew Side). For some reason I really don't have any friends from Boston that I can recall (Other than Mr. Goldman and this one dude who lives in Florida most of the year) so there really hasn't been much to do.

My grandparents live in a nice town known as Coolidge Corner where the property values are crazy high (the condos next door have sold for 1 Million a piece and all have been sold). Unfortunately, theres really not much to do, besides this comic book store. I actually collect old comics, and yes, Marvel is better than DC hands down. My dad started me as a kid with what was left of his and I've been expanding it ever since. My favorite character would have to be Gambit.

Though it is not commonly known, this guy can actually turn into Kinetic Energy (Most of the time you only see him throwing cards, which is awesome, but not the full extent of his powers. Apparently he had his powers blocked as a kid because he couldn't control them, but later gets them back and has control over all forms of kinetic energy) He can even go back in time, which is pretty bad ass.

But back to what I was saying, so I went into Cambridge (By Harvard) where there are all these people playing chess. Thats cool, except there aint shit else to do there. I mean they have some nice restaurants and an Urban Outfitters (Who Doesn't) But it really is dead over there. So then my mom said "Why don't you go check out Newberry Street" and so I hopped on the "Charlie Tram" and headed down there. Long story short is its a bunch of overpriced boutiques and (surprise surprise) and Urban Outfitters. The one redeeming feature was this store that was like the Boston version of Ubiq, which was pretty cool. Too bad I don't really need new shoes and am just cheap anyways.

The moral of this story is that when you come to Boston, do yourself a favor, bring a friend.

Anticipation

It's almost time, the next phase begins soon. I'm heading up to Boston and NYC to visit some family one last time before I head out. UPenn starts kind of late, so for all of my friends going to school around Philly, I'll be seeing you sonn. Holla.

Until next time.

Bruno <3

Yeah so I heard through the grape vine that this movie was straight gay porn and that it wasn't even worth downloading.

...Then I was in NYC with my friend and they wanted to see it, so I figured fuck it, why not. Turns out that the movie is actually fucking hilarious with some homsexuality spread throughout. Other than this really really really really gay part, thats actually funny, but incredibly gay, it really isnt that bad, for all of you homophobes out there.

Go See It. NO HOMO

My Finger

Yeah so I like to play soccer too. I played goalie for a club team, and a little for Starfinder. Had to stop back in March because it was tennis time.

Well a couple of weeks ago, I got the chance to play again. Rusty and ill prepared (No pads or goalie gloves), I proceed to dislocate my finger, but kept on playing. While my play improved over time, my finger only got worse. Found out today that I popped a few ligaments in there. Aint that a bitch.

My Ninja Cliff

Yeah so I love Roy Halladay. Too bad his manager is a nut, that really didnt help them at all. Instead we got my man Cliff.

He had a good year three years ago and an amazing year last year (Cy Young anyone?) This was in part thanks to his development of a new pitch, the ever craved slider.

So Has Anybody Looked Outside Lately?

My dorm room at UPenn (Harrison College House for those who are interested) affords me an amazing view of the city from all directions. I've spent a good deal of time since I got here simply gazing out the window and admiring the beautiful city that is Philadelphia. So the next time that your up high and you've got some time, take some time to gaze out that window, who knows, maybe you'll see something you like, find that thing your looking for.

Its ironic though, that its also the end for me too, as my summer winds down, the countdown begins until liberation.

Destination Michigan

So I spent the last five days at Eastern Michigan University in Milan. Doing what you ask? Running. USATF Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 5000 and 1500

Results

Props to man Alfredo. Took a nice jog and won with a 15:05....Once again beating me by about 30 seconds.

He also got 3rd in the 1500 and I managed to get 9th as fatigue set in.

Another member of our team who will not be named here got first, but was apparently too good to register as a part of our team, and so we did not win the first place team trophy.

For some reason there arent any articles about us, but I guess thats just how it is. Hopefuly that will change by the time you read this post.

And that Redman song from Tony Hawk 3 That is stuck in my head.....

Job??? Isn't this a Recession?

Until recently I haven't really been trying to find a job. I mean I've looked hear and there, filled out a few applications, but didn't really have a sense of earnest about doing it.

That all changed last week. My parents sat me down and basically told me that times were hard, and that I was going to need that money and that I better get my ass in gear and do a serious job search. Long story short, I got a notebook, went through the phonebook and craigs list, and started calling people.

So far I've gotten offers at two places:

CVS
Find My Audition

The CVS was for that photo technician job. You know that person who looks real disinterested and bored while helping you get your photos printed? That might be me.

The second job was a little more interesting and possible much more lucrative. I actually found this one on craigslist.

Its for drumroll.....a male modeling job.

I looked at initially, and though it was a joke, but I figured Id give it a try. A phone interview and office interview later, I'm on my way for a workshop to get started. It could be bullshit and attempt to get my money, or it could not be. Its worth a try.

Heres the link for any of you interested. They do musicians and actors as well.

The Birdman Cometh

I have to give a shoutout to my man Chris Anderson. Got suspended, go his act together, and came back better than ever.

I actually watched Nuggets games this year just to see him play, even if it is for only 20 minutes (and yet he is second in the league in bpg at 2.42, but leagues the league with 5.68 blocks per 48 minutes), if he got more burn, who knows what he could do. I really like players who play with passion and intensity, so watching Anderson really is a treat, to see someone play like that day in and day out.

College

My Parents are in San Fransisco, so I decided to spend the weekend at my new home, The University of Pennsylvania.

I was there already last weekend for an overnight orientation, so I'm already getting used to it. Me with the Cross Country/Track team, going to have to start training more, probably join a running club after tennis is over. My roommate is actually an 800 runner who runs a 1:54, which for those of you who don't know is really fast for a high school student. Ill definitely have to step up the work ethics if I don't want to get toasted.

Friday I checked out the relays, then went to the gospel concert per the suggestion of the person who's room I stayed in last weekend. Though I was raised Jewish and am not really religious, I did enjoy the music, they can really sing. Especially that rock of ages song, even though its 7 minutes long and repetitive as hell it was still good.

Saturday, I went to a street fair/frat street dance party, was pretty nice, got some free food , and that's always good. After that was the step competition, was really cool, like stomp the yard but more creative and no Chris Brown. After that I witnessed a fraternity initiation rite (the Kappas), I didn't really understand why it had to be so long and boring, but I guess for the four who officially became members it was pretty sweet. Then at about 12:30 there was an after party for the step show, so I went to that until about 2:00 when it ended. People were heading over to the Kappa house and the track house for the after-after party, but I decided to call it a night and catch a cab home.

Id say that's a good weekend, I'm just going to catch up on some things today, too tired really to do anything else, maybe take some golf swings in the back yard. Ive got to work on not dipping my chin, and thusly my body, when I swing, so I need to commit it to muscle memory.

Leavin

So I'm leaving again.

This time I'm going to Nashville. Its for a big ass chess tournament, Supernationals IV only happens once every four years, its like Woodstock but for chess.

Chess in only half the fun though, its the traveling part I like. That your going somewhere on a long trip, but that when your done you wont have to go home. Like when you were a kid you always wanted the car ride to last forever, so you'd never have to get out.

Its florida after that. Grandparents need attention too, so I'll be paying them a visit. PRobably ball in the YMCA, golf If I have time, nothing that takes too much effort. If your going to be in Ocean Ridge FL over spring break let me know. Peace.

Fraud'in

Like the rest of you, I like to say I hate frauds. If you ask someone what a fraud is, more than likely they're going to say its someone that tries to be someone or something they aren't because they believe it will help them gain social standing or quite possibly quell feelings of inadequacy they have about themselves. Regardless, people who are suspected of being a "fraud" are ostracized and criticized as well, but usually not to their face. When your with someone who's suspected of being a fraud, you tend to withdraw yourself slightly from any interactions with that person, as if to put on an act to shield yourself from theirs.

You begin to suspect that someone is a fraud when they start behaving in a way that is not consistent with their old behavior pattern. even if you disliked their old patter, you still criticize them for that change, especially if it looks like they are trying to imitate a person or a new style. It is clear that they are doing this because they believe it will help them , yet you put them down for making that change. Most people believe a fraud is someone who isn't behaving like the person they know they are. If they had change on the "inside" then they would be accepted, but if it clear that they have not then they are not acceptable.

My question is why do we ridicule these people so? They are simply trying to do what they believe will help them in the long run, even if they dont really "feel it", somewhere in the back of their minds they believe its the right thing to do. Dont we all do the same thing, try to improve ourselves and hope that our new "form" is accepted? Yet when others do the same thing we try to crush them under the weight of the illusion we are supposed to be putting up. Do any of us know who we really are? If you put on act all the time shouldnt that be who you really are, not who you think you are supposed to be. In that case it wouldnt be an act, it would be who you actually are.

Dont get me wrong, I too get annoyed when it looks like someones putting on an act, but I dont think its for that reason. Its that what they are doing doesnt look like to me is going to help them one bit, and that is what angers me.
